About This Spot

Nestled on the lively stretch of St James's Street in Kemptown, Vero Gusto feels like discovering a quiet, cherished nook amid the ebb and flow of Brighton’s vibrant streets. The moment you step inside, the bustle outside softens into a calm hum, replaced by a space that feels both intimate and unpretentious. Sunlight spills gently through the windows, catching warm-toned interiors that invite you to slow down and savor your time.

This cozy café marries the charm of a traditional Italian bakery with the casual comfort of a local favorite, creating an environment that welcomes a variety of moments—whether it’s a contemplative morning coffee, a casual catch-up with friends, or a relaxed afternoon treat. The pace here feels thoughtful rather than hurried, as if the value lies as much in the ritual of being here as in what’s on your plate.

The aroma itself is an invitation: fresh baked pastries and the unmistakable scent of quality coffee intertwine, weaving a gentle spell. The experience extends beyond typical café fare; from the delicate flakiness of croissants filled with rich, indulgent pastes to lightly chewy pizza slices that carry a subtle, airy texture, there’s a reassuring sense of craftsmanship and care in everything served. Each cup of coffee—whether it’s a frothy cappuccino or something a little more playful and nuanced—is made with an evident affection for the ritual, balancing flavor with warmth and precision.

Vero Gusto delights not through theatrics, but through a tender attention to detail: the way a chocolate brownie pairs seamlessly with a pistachio coffee, how a lightly sweetened cannoli feels like a small celebration, or the ease of stepping out to the outdoor seats with a slice of margherita on a sunny afternoon. The atmosphere here invites shared moments, quiet indulgences, and a comforting familiarity that draws you back time and again.

For those who appreciate discovering the layers beneath a neighborhood nook—the mix of scent, texture, and atmosphere that builds a place’s identity—Vero Gusto offers a quietly joyful retreat. It’s where food and drink form not just a meal, but a gentle moment of everyday pleasure.

Cluttered between many shops at St.James street..this is a small but beautiful and calm place... The interiors are beautiful... They serve excellent bakery cuisine along with great coffees and teas... They serve pizzas, croissants, cakes, tarts, etc ...all fresh n tasty .. coffees and teas are made with love... Coffee consists of beautiful froth... The presentation at the outlet is very appealing... Service is also good... The quality and quantity is worth the price. Planning to visit soon ..

Their Croissant is really good, we tried chocolate and pistachio Croissant and both were good. They have pizza as well, there is 4 cheese pizza, margarita pizza, vege pizza, and tuna pizza. The cappuccino and americano coffee was also good.

We always try to come here when in Brighton. Seriously the best cookies & pizza in Brighton, they also know how to make espresso (which isn’t common in England ). Great, fast and friendly service no matter how busy it is. Decent prices with indoor and outdoor seating. Thank you for being amazing! Highly recommend their italien butter chocolate cookies!

We now go to this little cafe up St James Street every time we visit Brighton. It's small, unassuming and humble interior belies the truly immense selection of savoury and sweet selections that awaits. I hate big thick deep crust style pizzas and yet whilst those found here, at first glance, look like that, they are instead light and fluffy, with just the right level of chewiness and delightful flavours. The choice of cakes and pastries is immense, homemade and truly delicious. The coffee is of a great pedigree and tastes just perfect. Finally, the lovely staff are friendly, engaging and helpful. A true gem.

Imagine if a traditional British caff and a luxury Italian bakery had a baby. The best deep pan pizza I ever tasted. Brilliant relaxing playlist on quietly in the background. The most delicious coffee with almond milk. 11/10 no notes.

It is such a lovely Italian place. Serves fresh baked pizza and great Italian coffee. Every time I'm in Brighton I go there for breakfast or quick snack. Food is always lovely. Pizza there reminds me pizza we had in Rome. Would definitely recommend everyone to visit this place, if not for food at least have a look at their pizza display

This place located centrally in brighton on Saint James street offers a variety of bakes from sweet to savoury. I did not want to give it a 4 star first but the food saved it. I had a chocolate cake which seemed made with coconut and cocoa topped with shredded coconut pieces. It tastes great and fudgy( 3£) The decaf latte was a large one for 3.3£, with a delightful taste of fresh coffee. The pizza is mind blowing, I love thick crust pizzas.but this one has a fluffy spongy thick crust, that is crispy on the bottom and melts in your mouth i got the vegetarian one which had mixed vegs and topped with probably the best cheese. In few words the pizza had an amazing taste that lifted me. A slice of pizza is for 2.95£. On the other hand, the place doesn't offer a menu with price list, and no prices are displayed on the items. One of the staff was very dry and looked bored which at first gave me a very bad impression of the place. But then I realised it is probably her character cz she tried to pull a smile while serving the coffee. The chefs are so nice and welcoming. I think this place should display item names and prices for people to be encouraged to buy because noone wants to order and be surprised by the bill or be annoying and ask about every single item price especially if staff looked bored and not interested to help. If it wasn't for this it definitely deserves 5 stars The ambiance had chill yet energizing vibe with mix of rnb pop and soul music playing the the background. Seating is okey but can be improved, you could also see the bakery kitchen which is reassuring.toilettes are clean and neat.
